Restaurant Guests’ Unique Plane View at Dinner: ‘Stunning To Be That Close’

A video of an incredible plane spotting moment from a Greek island has gone viral on TikTok.
The footage was shared by @anaajz and has received 4.2 million views since it was posted on July 24. According to a later comment from the poster, the moment was captured at the Mylos taverna, a restaurant on the Greek island of Skiathos.
A note overlaid on the video reads: “Having dinner and seeing this.” The clip shows guests sitting at outdoor tables along a water’s edge. A plane is later shown flying low past the restaurant guests, who are seen staring up at the sky with their cameras out.
The viral clip comes as there were reported to be 176,521 flight arrivals in the last 24 hours, according to FlightAware, the live flight tracking website, at the time of writing on Wednesday.
Travel is forecast to hit “record highs” this year, with global tourism spending projected to reach $2 trillion, according to a December 2023 survey by Euromonitor International, the market research firm.
Air travel has gone from strength to strength in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.
In November 2023, total global air traffic was reported to be at 99.1 percent of pre-pandemic November 2019 levels, according to an International Air Transport Association (IATA) report in January.
According to an August report by the lATA , total passenger demand in July was up 8 percent, compared with the same month in 2023.
“July was another positive month. In fact, passenger demand hit an all-time high for the industry and in all regions except Africa, despite significant disruption caused by the CrowdStrike IT outage,” Willie Walsh, the IATA’s Director General, said in the report.
TikTok users were blown away by the plane encounter in the viral clip.
Market.Alleys wrote “This is so cool” and @nightttttt said “that is the best part about dinner tbh [to be honest].”
Paul Thomas noted: “Stunning to be that close and personal—but the jet fuel fumes would kill any appetite—especially the garlic bread…”
Cold Aviation said “Best view ever” and dom noted “aviation dream bruh.”
Pakistan Views simply said “amazing.”
Some were a bit less impressed, such as edster1812 who said “what.. a plane? wow” and @..ilovetaylorswift1 asked “Isn’t it really loud?”
Mitch Armstrong noted “Yeah it looks great but I’ll be terrified.”
